Check This Out. You May Already Be An ID Theft Victim.

You may already be one of the many victims of identity theft, without realising it. Some fraudulent activities can take many months to discover so you need to be wary of any event that is out of the ordinary. In the past, the loss of an important document could be considered as an inconvenience. Now it should be considered a potential danger. 

You could potentially be an identity theft victim:

• If your driving licence or passport have been lost or stolen. You should advise the DVLC or the Passport Office immediately.
  
  
• If you discover that state benefits which you are not in receipt of are being claimed in your name. Contact your local Benefits Agency office immediately.
  
  
• If expected mail from your bank or any other financial service providers does not get delivered. Contact them and check if it has been sent and the address it is being sent to.
  
  
• If you are billed for goods or services you know nothing about. Contact the suppliers and check the delivery addresses.
  
  
• If entries in your bank or credit card statements do not tally with your purchases. Contact your bank first then follow the procedures for reporting that you may be a victim of identity fraud.
  
  
• If you are visited by debt recovery agents for outstanding debts that are not your responsibility. In this situation, gain as much information from the agent as you can, regarding the goods or services for which payment is being sought, the supplier, the delivery date and address. Check your Credit Report and follow the initial procedures for reporting an Identity Theft.
  
  

• If you have been refused any financial services as a result of a credit check which indicates you have a poor credit score, even though you know you have a sound credit history. Best way forward here is to check your Credit Report yourself for accounts in your name that you are unaware of.
