Knowing that you have had your name stolen by identity thieves is not always immediately apparent. The criminals, who indulge in identity theft, work in sneaky and methodical ways to steal your name, and they are adept at covering their tracks.

Beware Of These Email Scams
The notorious ‘Nigerian’ money scams are doing the rounds again, so beware. Generally email based, these prey on peoples’ weaknesses - greed and desperation – in an attempt to con them out of the contents of their bank accounts.

A report issued by Morgan Stanley Consumer Banking indicates that young people are taking the most risks over identity fraud, and that 2007 could see identity theft fraud levels increase significantly.

You may not realise that identity fraud is one of the fastest growing crimes in the UK, and that more than 120,000 case were recorded last year alone.

40% of all respondents dispose of financial documents without burning or shredding them, whilst 59% of the under 30s admit to this.

The UK government says that Identity theft is the fastest-growing crime in Britain, and that £1.7 billion a year is lost to the perpetrators of this type of fraud. And it seems that no-one is immune from this crime.

Although there is now a greater awareness of identity theft and associated fraud than a few years ago, people are still too complacent about the problem and need to be more vigilant.
